This makes me sick - mentions of rape, abortion, and HR 3
These are 2 of many articles I have seen on the subject. At first I was hoping the writers were kidding, but unfortunately, they are not.
Words fail me.
I have a hard time reading accounts of women who were raped and then forced to "prove it," and/or being humiliated and/or ignored because they weren't 'raped enough'.
I have a hard time reading about women who are in painful and/or abusive and/or rape and/or life -threatening and/or any situation where they need to consider/choose an abortion.
Would I like it if there was never a need for an abortion? If no one was ever raped? Sure. But I live in reality. Women, children, men are raped every day. Women and girls choose abortion, often for the most heartbreaking of reasons.
I am thankful that I have not had to live through either experience. But that does not give me or anyone else the right to force someone to fit my rules and/or standards after they have been raped or when they want/need an abortion before they can be helped in any fashion, not just with money.
I have been trying to put myself in their place, especially if this bill goes through. I can't do it. I can only hope that neither I nor anyone I know will ever have to deal with the extra horror and humiliation this bill would cause.
